Basic Horseshoeing
Foundational Training for Future Farriers
The Basic Horseshoeing Course at Troy Price Horseshoeing School is designed for individuals who want to pursue a career in the farrier trade or gain a solid foundation in professional horseshoeing. This intensive training program focuses on developing the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely trim and shoe horses while understanding the science behind proper hoof care.
Students begin with the fundamentals of equine hoof anatomy, physiology, and conformation before progressing into hands-on trimming and shoeing techniques. Throughout the course, students gain extensive real-world experience working directly with horses while also developing their forging and shoe modifications skills in the shop environment.
The goal of the Basic Horseshoeing Course is to provide students with the confidence, technical ability, and foundational knowledge necessary to begin working in the farrier profession or continue advancing their training in more advanced programs.
Hands-On Horseshoeing Instruction
This course emphasizes practical learning through repetition and real-world application. Students spend a significant portion of their training working directly with horses, developing the skills required to trim, balance, and shoe hooves correctly.

Forge Work and Shop Skills
In addition to live horse work, students spend time in the forge developing essential metalworking skills used by professional farriers. These techniques include shaping and modifying factory-made horseshoes as well as introductory horseshoe making and basic tool fabrication.

Tuition & Fees
The tuition for each course is all inclusive.
There are no extra fees or hidden charges incurred during the course.
Tools will be provided for the student to use while enrolled at the school.
A textbook will be available for each student.
If a student prefers, they can purchase their own textbook.
Free housing will be provided on the grounds where the school is located for the student to use while at the school and includes a kitchen and laundry area.
Meals, bedding, and toiletries are not provided.
